I’ll be honest, this was one of the hardest weddings to blog because I loved every single image from this wedding, and sharing 1000 images in a blog post just isn’t possible. So I had to scout through them to pick my favorites, and it was hard! Kayla and Caleb are from Texas and they planned a destination wedding in Crested Butte with their closest friends and family, and it was the epitome of an amazing Colorado wedding! If my husband and I were to re-do our wedding day, I would basically want it to be just like Kayla and Caleb’s wedding. The ceremony and reception were both at the top of one of the ski lifts, and the views were amazing! This was my first time in Crested Butte, and I couldn’t imagine a better group of people to spend it with. I hadn’t met Kayla or Caleb before their wedding day, but they were so welcoming and so genuinely happy. Their family was so excited and friendly, I couldn’t help but feel that we were all long time friends. I’m seriously tearing up right now just thinking about all the love and fun that was had with this group.

Now some Q&A from the gorgeous Kayla…
How did you and your husband meet?
Caleb and I met freshman year of college through a mutual friend first semester. We only met a few times that first semester, but then second semester I walked into my introduction to cinematography class the first day (it was a huge lecture hall  class with over 150 student) and took a seat by myself. I was settling in for a lonely and boring semester in cinema class when heard someone say my name. I turned to see who called me and saw Caleb! He got up from his seat next to one of his friends and came to sit by me. For the rest of the semester we would sit next to each other and each week we would go to one another’s dorm rooms to study (aka watch YouTube videos and flirt relentlessly) and take online quizzes for the class together.
How did he propose?
Caleb proposed on Saturday June 4, 2016! The night before the proposal my best friend (maid of honor), Lauren was at our house and her and I were giving Caleb a very hard time about taking so long to pop the question (it had been 7 1/2 years after all). The morning of the proposal I was trying to sleep in when I rolled over in bed and noticed that the ring I typically wear on my left ring finger was loose and falling off (or so I thought) so I pushed it further down on my finger and went back to sleep. About an hour later I stirred and noticed that Caleb was staring at me. I found that pretty creepy and asked him why he was being so weird. Caleb said that there was something different about me that morning trying to give me a hint. After a few minutes of back and forth on this I finally caught on and looked at my finger. While I was snoozing away that morning Caleb had slipped on my gorgeous ruby engagement ring and when I finally woke up he very simply asked me to marry him!
What is your advice for other future brides when planning their wedding?
I’d advise all future brides to relish the process, and make sure they stay grounded and in the moment on their day. It’s important to remember what the day is all about and to not get caught up with the details that are ultimately insignificant. Its about the commitment you’re making and the connection and love between you and your partner. It’s easy to get swept up in the moment of the wedding day, but staying focused on the celebration of love that it’s supposed to be helps ensure that you really soak in the whole thing with the people who love you both!
What was your favorite part about planning your wedding?
My favorite part of the planning process was just the excitement of it all and the anticipation for the day of. Knowing that this day would be such a joyful and exciting day filled with so much love not just between myself and my husband, but from everyone we love the most, was so thrilling and it really made me enjoy planning a party to celebrate all of that love!
Why did you choose Colorado for your wedding?
We are from Texas and I always knew I wanted to have a destination wedding. I loved the idea of making our wedding a true event for all our loved ones so doing a wedding that was part vacation and part wedding was important to me, but I didn’t want our friends and family (almost exclusively Texans) to be overly burdened by travel time and expenses. Colorado seemed like a very natural choice for us. It’s breathtaking views, cool summer temperatures, and quaint mountain towns made it perfect for us! And personally I’ve always felt a connection to and a fondness for the mountains. I really feel like I meant to be a mountain bride!
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Wow, it maybe be impossible to pick a favorite part of our wedding day. For me seeing Caleb for the first time that day in our first look session was so magical and you and your husband made it very low key and relaxing for us (which is huge when your soon to be husband hates having pictures taken)! Caleb is not an overly sentimental guy, and he never gushes. He has also not really been a guy very into weddings, and he’s never thought that the bridal look is all that stunning, so when he turned around and saw me in all my bridal glory and genuine expressed how beautiful I looked it really pleasantly surprised me. That was an unexpected joy on our day. Having Caleb’s mom officiate our ceremony was the most moving scenario I could have imagined. She not only did an incredible job, but she really captured our essence as a couple and made our ceremony so personal! I will never forget how I felt as I held Caleb’s hands as we spoke our vows to one another! Hearing our dear friend Ben Miller sing our first dance song was incredible. It was so important to us that our wedding have as many personal touches as possible and this was the icing on the cake for us! Hearing my parents, and my very best friend in the world say in their speeches that Caleb and I make each other the best versions of ourselves was maybe my ultimate favorite moment of the evening. Hearing something I have always felt to be true reflected by the people I love most on my wedding day meant so much to me, and I was honored by all of the kind and loving words said on our behalf by our love ones that day! Also, dancing my heart out with my new husband was pretty epic! Sorry, I guess I’m summation that the whole day was my favorite part of our wedding day? Hahahaha
I look forward to building memories with Caleb most! I’m excited just to spend all my days with him whether we are traveling (which we plan to do a ton of), having lazy Saturdays and Sunday’s together, or running around to see all of our families on the holidays, I am just so excited to share the rest of my life with someone that I have so much fun with and whom I love so very much!
