A Zion National Park Elopement with Two Brides and a Camper Van

I am OBSESSED with Leslie and Jean’s elopement. It was a long day, starting at sunrise and ending at sunset. But holy moly it was worth it. These two are so awesome and so in love. it made this day feel like a dream instead of work. We started at a very cold cliff edge as the sun rose over Zion Canyon, and ended at a super secret ceremony location outside of the park in the warm sun. Leslie and Jean said their vows, popped champagne, and celebrated with some very special friends. And did I mention they were rolling around in a camper van!?

Here is some Q&A from the awesome Leslie…

How did you and your significant other first meet?
Online, bumble. We matched. I talked first. We set a date and she stood me up (said childcare fell through, but actually she never got any! Found that out later from her dad–he would have been the babysitter, had Jean asked). We ended up getting together later that same week and she realized I was the one she had been waiting for (JK!, lol). But in all seriousness, we hit it off immediately and were pretty inseparable after.

What is your proposal story?
It’s not some grand, exciting, story, but it’s prefect for us. We decided we wanted to spend our lives together after three months of spending basically every minute not working together. We picked out our dreams rings and pretty much knew proposals were coming from each person. For Jean, we went as a family (us and the kids) to our favorite local taco/nacho place. I got Jean a margarita, got on down on one knee, and simultaneously gave her the ring and the drink (and gave the kids locopops–local ice cream popsicles). Jean proposed later in Seattle (5 different times finding perfect photo opp each time).

What are your favorite things to do together?
We love adventures. Travel is probably our favorite thing to do together. We want to visit every National Park. We also love living in Durham and being able to walk downtown for an evening out. One of our other favorite things to do is play in our queer sports league with some of our best friends.

Why did you decide to elope/have an intimate ceremony?
We love to travel and thought eloping allowed us to have a special time together, while also doing something we love. COVID-19 made it so that no family or friends were able to attend… but it was still really special and fun.

What was your favorite thing about your elopement day in Zion National Park?
To be honest it was a pretty exhausting day! My favorite part was getting to do all of it with my favorite person, Jean 🙂

What advice do you have for other couples that are thinking about eloping?
Be as present for each moment as you can. Don’t worry about what the pictures are going to look like or if something doesn’t go exactly as planned because looking back at it, you will want to remember having fun and feeling the love between you and your special person!!!
