Malory and Eric planned an epic two day wedding celebration, starting in the foothills of Boulder with a sweet first look and bridal party photos. The following day, Malory and Eric had their ceremony and an epic party at Skylight in downtown Denver. They truly had the best of both worlds when it comes to getting married in Colorado, the mountains and the city.
How did you and your significant other first meet?
We worked together at a hotel in Tucson, AZ. She was a meeting planner while I was a banquet server, so she liked to boss me around from day 1. We’ve always had a similar sense of humor and our love grew organically through goofing off together at work.
Tell us your proposal story!
We went back to Arizona to visit family for the holidays in 2018. I invited all of Malory’s closest friends and family to help surprise her when I popped the question. We were staying at the same hotel we met at and went out to one of the outdoor venue locations at sunset and I got down on one knee. After she said yes all of her surprise guests came out and ambushed her with champagne and hugs. We ended the night at my parents’ house for some Mexican food and drinks!
What are your favorite things to do together?
Hanging out with our dogs Doug and Wilbur, exploring all the beautiful corners of Colorado, and traveling (when that was still a thing).
Why did you decide to get married in Colorado?
Honestly, it wasn’t our first choice. We were looking in for venues in both Arizona and California as that’s where both our families and most of our friends are. Eric came across Skylight by chance one day and we looked through the window and decided to look up their website and we were smitten by the space. We never imagined a wedding in the city but it was everything we could’ve hoped for and more.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?
(Eric) Every single second of the entire day! We didn’t see each other until the ceremony (even though we had our first look the day before) but getting ready with family and friends before-hand was relaxing and fun. The ceremony was beautiful and our officiant came ready with a charming and funny speech. After we officially said yes we had wings (Eric’s favorite) and happy hour drinks followed by an amazing dinner. The dancing and atmosphere was exactly what we wanted and it all went by too quickly but it was the most memorable and best day of our lives.
(Mal) Like Eric said everything was my favorite. Eric and I are THRILLED we did pictures the day before up in Boulder and had the Turtle bus. The pictures were stunning and the party bus was poppin! Doing this made getting ready the day of so much less stressful / nerve racking because we weren’t cramming everything into a small window of time. The day of was just as amazing as the day before pictures. The food was on point from the wings to the late night pizza and ice cream. The dancing was never not happening – one second the dance floor would be jammed packed then we would all be dancing by the bar (waiting for the drinkings) then back to the dance floor.
What advice do you have for other couples that are planning their wedding?
Have fun and remember that this event is whatever you want it to be as an extension and celebration of your love and personalities. We’ve always been the types to share in our love with friends and family and we wanted that to be evident. We also felt like we were on the same page at all times with our vendors, find people who have understand your vision and you trust them to carry it out. The amount of talented people who brought all of our ideas and interests to life still blows us away months later.
For people who have to postpone weddings, just remember this is about your love and starting your life together. Yes it is a huge bummer things not going the way it should but your celebration can be done however you want at a later date.
